A word on the creative process and finding consistency in the gym
The first rule of the creative process
FLOW WITH YOUR NATURE
I'll use writing as the example, perfect fit for a substack post eh!
I write best in 5 minute spurts. Writing 100 words in a blast. Then waiting a minute or two before hitting another 5 minute burst.
I don't do well with '45 minutes blocks.'
I wrote a 300+ pg dissertation this way. My sole authored academic book, same process.
I don't tell others to write this way. Instead I tell them to do it in a way that comes naturally.
The creative process CANNOT be forced.
So your best bet is to figure out where you don't find resistance to getting the ideas out into the world through action. And refining that process for yourself. Don't worry about what other people say is the 'optimal' way to create. Find what works best for you, and let it FLY.
What's not obvious to people is how this also works in physical activity and exercise. Gurus and influencers tell you there is ONE way to work pout properly. Health experts and doctors want you to exercise for the physical benefits only, limiting the options in front of you for physical expression and creativity.
If you're someone who struggles to hit the gym consistently, I want you to think deeply about this idea of creative potential and flowing with your nature.
If you're having difficulty just showing up, remove all the resistance POSSIBLE so that showing up becomes habitual.
That means playing sports and doing exercises you enjoy for their own sake, not worrying about the outcomes and just losing yourself in the action.
